Siem Reap

We decided to take a four-day weekend to trip from Japan to Siem Reap, Cambodia to see all the ancient temples. I think ee were of course most excited to see the great Angkor Wat. The tour company from the hotel provided us when a car to hire to take us to the all the different temples via a driver. To go to the Angkor area you have to pay by the day so it’s important to see as much as you can in one day, as it gets more expensive the longer you take.

Angkor Wat

The first stop on our Siem Reap, Cambodia tour was to the famous Angkor Wat. We were picked up really early in the morning to get a head start on the day, try and beat the crowds, and to see a lot before it became too hot.

Ta Prohm

After we finished our tour around Angkor Wat we headed over to Ta Prohm. This temple ruin is famous for being in the movie Tomb Raider, with Angelina Jolie. It was amazing to see the trees growing within the ruins of the temple. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992.

Angkor Thom Bayon

Next we headed over to Angkor Thom Bayon which is known for all the smiling faces jutting out from the stones. The ruins were equally impressive as the other temples and it was a pretty massive size.

This ended our day in the Angkor Temple complex. The next day we did more temple tours and a sunset view of Angkor Wat.

Preah Khan

We started our day with this temple which had similar quality as some of the other temples, but had a two story structure still visible.

Pre Rup

Pre Rup was one of the tallest temples we had seen so far. The base of it was still mostly intact, but the top only had the five pillars left standing so it looked cool with just the five pillars.

Neak Pean

This temple is surrounded by water and to get to it you have to walk on this boardwalk that is barely above the water level. Even the slightest tripping of your feet could send you into the water! It was quite interesting!

Phnom Bakheng

On our last day we went to Phnom Bakheng at sunset to take pictures of Angkor Wat. There were so many people up there trying to get a good shot. It was a pretty steep climb to the top, but you can see everything. Also here are some other temples we went to that I didn’t catch the name, but when we go again soon I will make sure to get them!
