Chiyoda Cherry Blossom Viewing

Last weekend we went to a district in Tokyo called Chiyoda which had an amazing amount of cherry blossom trees!

When we first got there, we rented a row boat where we were able to get amazing pictures of the trees from below.

It took Matt awhile to get the hang of rowing us around. We ran into some cherry blossom branches and other people on boats. But we quickly learned we were not alone and that the Japanese were friendly enough to not get angry with us!

After our boat ride we stumbled upon the Indian Embassy where they were having a mini fest on the grounds of the embassy, serving food, drinks and clothing. Matt finally got some Indian beer that he has been craving since Germany and I had some sparkling wine!

Next, we went to the main fest area and bought some cherry blossom tea, ate some local food, and relaxed under the trees. Then we made our way to the Yashushi Shrine.

We looked around took some pictures and then made our way to the Sumo Wrestling Exhibition. The event was free and it was packed! We were unable to find a spot to sit (on the ground!) so we made a slow circle around the ring, took pictures and eventually found a spot to stand where we wouldn’t be in people’s way. We watched a few matches and then carried on with our day.

After all of this we walked around the surrounding areas checking out shops and stopping for coffee before our bus left for the day.
