Kyoto Highlights

During Memorial Day weekend, us and four other friends went to Kyoto. For some of us this was a second time around, especially since the last time the House’s were there I broke my wrist in a bicycle accident, cutting our trip short. Needless to say, there were no accidents this time around. (Hooray!). Here are a few Kyoto highlights we high recommend when you visit.
First stop Kinkaku-ji Temple, aka The Golden Pavilion. This temple is so serene and picturesque I could go back there many times and it always is so beautiful to see, minus the huge crowds of people.
Walking the streets that night we saw a real life Geisha! Gasp!
The next day we went to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine which is known for it’s thousands of Torii gates
Lastly we stopped at Kiyomizu-dera temple which is located at the top of the hill
At the bottom of the hill there is this waterfall, Otowa-no-taki, where visitors drink for health, longevity, and success in studies. I probably should have drank from this waterfall last time I was in Kyoto to avoid any accidents. There was a bit of a line to wait and use the ladles to take pictures.

The evenings of these nights in Kyoto consisted of meeting friendly Japanese people while partaking in drinking adult beverages, along with singing karaoke. Just like most other places in Japan, Kyoto’s locals are really friendly and eager to assist in any way they can, if you need help.
