Osaka, Japan

We had Matt’s dad and step mom in town and we wanted to take them outside of Tokyo so we decided on Osaka, Japan since we have never been there. We happened to go there in the middle of summer when it was so hot so we only stayed outside for a few hours a day so we would not get heat stroke!

Osaka Castle

There are quite a few things to do in Osaka, but the most popular thing is the Osaka Castle. It was built during the Azuchi-Momoyama period and is most beautiful during the spring time when the Cherry Blossom trees are blooming around the castle park.

Umeda Sky Building

Next up we went to the top of Umeda Sky Building to enjoy panoramic views of the city. On the way up, there are floating escalators between towers of the buildings, which freaked me and my step-mother-in-law out as we are both wary of heights.

Shitennoji Temple

Next we decided to check out the Shitennoji Temple. It was so hot outside, but luckily this temple had some misters to spray us down and keep us cool. Since it was so hot outside there were hardly any people at the temple, which made it feel like we were on our own private tour.

After this we went and did a little bit of shopping as it became dark (and cool) and wandered around until we found somewhere to eat.

Overall, Osaka is a great place to go to for a short trip or a day’s trip from Kyoto.

Things we didn’t get to do that are also popular: Universal Studios, Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, America Mura (American Village), Namba Yasaka Shrine, and Kuromon Market.
