Hiroshima and Miyajima

After our Kyoto excursion with our friends we decided to go to Hiroshima and Miyajima, which are very close to Kyoto, by train. We took the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Hiroshima for one night. While we were there we went to the Atomic Bomb Peace Memorial Museum learning about the specifics of the tragedy that struck that day.
Pictured above is the area near the Peace Memorial before the bomb.
This is the same area after the bomb. You can see that hardly any buildings were left and even the large buildings had been blown away with not much left standing.
We also visited the famous Dome building which was one of the buildings still left with the original structure of what is was before the bomb.
Visiting Hiroshima was very educational for me personally and like many other places we have visited where tragedy took place it was very depressing. However, the Japanese do not look down on us or hold grudges, they were very friendly and anxious for us to learn their history.
Later, the next day before we departed Hiroshima we took a small excursion out to Miyajima to visit the Torii gate in the water. We got there at a prefect time when the tide was in and the gate was in the water.
At the end of the trip we took the train back to the Camp Zama area. Overall, the trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima were very eye opening, but education and beautiful at the same time.
