Shirakawago and Takayama

We took a tour with our local military outdoor recreation  on post to Shirakawago and Takayama. The journey started at 4am as well headed on a packed bus to Shirakawago.

Shirakawago

Six hours later and little to no sleep we reached this old town. We hiked up a small hill to get a view of the entire town. It was really more of a village, which reminded us of Europe.

We went inside one of the museum houses which was made of large wooden beams and rope. The roofs were thatched and being inside of one really brought up back in time.
Matt on the top floor of the building. The temperature was really cool up there considering it was hot outside.
View of the snow capped mountains and carp streamers.
We walked across this suspended bridge.
We went to this town at the perfect time as it was nice and warm and everything was blooming. It was so green and the hills made it a different change of scenery from what we are used to seeing in Tokyo area.

Takayama

Next we drove a few hours to Takayama. Here was just another city with small alleys that specialized in Sake breweries. There was also souvenir shops and restaurants for many tourists to enjoy.  This region is also known for Hida beef, much like Kobe beef. We indulged in some of the beef for lunch. They sliced it real thin and had some good sides to go with it.
We tasted a lot of Sake to help us sleep on our long journey back home.
These two cities were very different and it was nice to see the countryside of Japan, outside of the metropolis of Tokyo.
