Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, Thailand was another embarkation point on our Southeast Asian cruise we went on. After a long New Years Eve night on the boat we made it to Phuket where we we were supposed to take a tour out to Phi Phi Islands, where the movie The Beach was filmed. There are huge islands raised out of the water and the water is so clear, but we never made it.

The weather was beautiful that day, but really windy. We all boarded our little boat that was supposed to take 45 min to get to the islands. We started out towards the waves and the tour guide warned us it would be bumpy for awhile and that it would take us over an hour to get there because we had to go slower against the swells. Well about 45 min into the trip half of the boat was sea sick up and we all were miserable. I was so scared and feeling sick that I could not move the entire time and kept my eyes closed. The boat was getting some serious air and hitting the water so hard I thought we were going to get hurt really bad. Matt thought we were going to capsize. The crew decided (if it was ok with the group) to turn us around and that it was too dangerous (ya think?) so we did. As soon as we turned around the ride was a bit smoother, but that is when I got sick and continued to get sick until we hit land.

The tour guide asked when we were going to come back another day to try again, but we couldn’t since we were on a cruise so we got refunded our money.

After all that, we went back to the ship to clean up and eat some lunch to help my stomach settle.

Then we went back out. I went to the beach to relax while Matt went and got a massage for an hour. The water was beautiful and the beach was nice. Matt had a Chang beer (which is Thai), and was the official sponsor of Everton (Matt’s favorite English soccer team).

We will definitely have to go back to Phuket, but I will not be getting on a boat anytime soon.
