Singapore: New Years Eve

Since we liked Singapore so much the first time we thought we would go back again. This time we went back for New Years Eve.

Studio M Hotel

We usually keep with our club rewards hotel chain, IHG, but this time we wanted to try something different. The hotel we chose was Studio M Hotel which are loft-style rooms. They are not large at all and that is probably something we should have considered. Yes, it was interesting, but not worth it as we never used the upstairs portion and we had a view of other rooms in the hotel from our window.

Tiger Brewery

One of the activities we were really excited about was going to the Tiger Brewery. We had a ball learning about how the make their beer and then to get the samples at the end. Tiger has many partners with other beer brands around the world, such as Heineken, which was interesting to learn. The brewery is a little far from the downtown area, but you can easily take a taxi there.

Tours

We decided to take a walking tour around the old part of town with one of the local tour groups. The went around part of the little India and Arabic neighborhoods. We looked in shops and did some small souvenir shopping. The tour guide also pointed out different buildings and what they all were. It was a pretty long tour and I was starting to get bored. I don’t think I have done a walking tour since then.

Along with the walking tour we also did a hop on/hop off tour around the city. There are different routes you can choose from when you book your tickets. This was the fastest way to see most of the city and the views are great.

NYE

We decided to book our New Years Eve dinner at an Indian restaurant inside the Marina Bay Sands mall. After dinner we went to the roof of the Marina Bay Sands and spent the rest of the night partying with drinks and slow sticks with the best view of the city. At midnight the fireworks went off over the bay and we had a perfect view point of that. Once the fireworks ended we headed downstairs to take a taxi back to our hotel. However, the taxi line was so long it was going to take hours to get back. So, we decided to walk all they way back to our hotel. It took forever and the amount of drunk people we saw on the way back was crazy. Most of the streets were closed so we could not get a taxi at any point during our walk back. Matt’s stomach was hurting and my feet were in so much pain from the shoes I wore. Lesson learned, not to stay near where you will be partying in a large city during New Years Eve.

Sentosa Island

Once our New Years Eve partying had worn off we decided to spend the rest of our time on Sentosa Island. It is an island connected to Singapore that has a ton of resorts, universal studios, and beach activities. The hotel we stayed at was called Festive Hotel- Resorts World Sentosa. It was very child friendly, even though we did not have any children at the time. There were lots of ameneities to enjoy there as well as shops and restaurants.

While staying on the island, we participated in a number of activities. We did a rope course which was really challenging for me physically and mentally, since I am scared of heights. We also did a segway tour where we rode along the beach and stopped to take pictures. Some other things we did were go to the Aquarium, ride the cable car across the water to the main island and back, and had a wonderful Anniversary dinner.

We <3 Singapore

Singapore has so much to do for everyone. Whether you want to get some culture, shopping, eat, or play. We really enjoy visiting Singapore numerous times and there is so much we haven’t been able to do that we hope to do in the future.
